Our story started back in 1893, when Denis Hanly and his son John set up a vertical woollen mill beside the Nenagh river, in a disused flour mill in Ballyartella, North Tipperary.

At John Hanly, our looms weave around 400 threads every minute — an incredible speed when you see them in motion.
But here’s the secret: speed is only one part of our story.
Before the loom even starts, every piece begins with careful design work, colour planning, and precise loom setup — a process that can take weeks. And after weaving, each piece is washed, brushed, pressed and inspected by hand to ensure it meets our exacting standards.
So while our looms may move quickly, our approach to making has never been rushed. We believe in slow, mindful craftsmanship — taking the time to weave heirloom-quality wool throws, scarves and blankets that you’ll treasure for years to come.
