Our story started back in 1893, when Denis Hanly and his son John set up a vertical woollen mill beside the Nenagh river, in a disused flour mill in Ballyartella, North Tipperary.

In 1952, a devastating fire tore through the John Hanly mill, reducing it from six storeys to just two and destroying the adjoining family home. Despite this immense setback, the Hanly family refused to let the flames define their future.
From the ashes, they rebuilt—focusing solely on weaving, a tradition that remains at the heart of our business today. Now, we weave merino, cashmere, lambswool, mohair, and more, crafting fabrics and accessories that stand the test of time.
Over 70 years later, resilience, craftsmanship, and innovation continue to drive John Hanly & Co. forward.
