In a world of two-day shipping and fleeting trends, we believe in something different — something lasting. At John Hanly, we don’t rush the process. We weave slow — not because we have to, but because it’s the only way to honour the craft, the fibres, and the people who will wear what we make.

Here’s why weaving slow isn’t just a method — it’s a mindset, and it’s more relevant than ever.

Natural Fibres Deserve Time

We work exclusively with 100% natural fibres — wool, merino, cashmere, and mohair. These fibres have been trusted for centuries for a reason: they’re warm, breathable, renewable, and incredibly durable. But to get the best from them, they need to be handled with patience and care — from dyeing to warping to weaving.

Heritage Techniques, Modern Integrity

At our mill in Co. Tipperary, we’ve been weaving since 1893. Many of the machines we use today have evolved, but the principles haven’t changed. We still oversee every step — selecting fibres, designing colourways, hand-finishing the final product — all under one roof.

It’s not the fastest way to work. But it ensures that every cap, scarf, throw and blanket meets the standard our legacy demands.

We Create to Last, Not Just to Sell

Fast fashion is designed to be temporary — often discarded after a season. We take the opposite approach: our pieces are made to be worn, gifted, passed down. When you choose John Hanly, you’re not just buying a product — you’re investing in something meaningful, enduring, and consciously made.

Slow Fashion is Sustainable Fashion

By weaving slow, we waste less. We buy less often. We create pieces that don’t chase trends, but celebrate timeless design. Our hydro-powered mill, our use of natural fibres, and our low-impact production all support a slower, more sustainable way to dress and live.

A Human Touch in Every Thread

Weaving slow means paying attention. It means caring — about the materials, about our team, and about the people who’ll wear our work. Every John Hanly product is handled by skilled hands, finished with pride, and made to carry memories into the future.

Today, we weave a memory.
