At John Hanly, every thread we weave carries a story — of Irish landscapes, family legacy, and timeless craftsmanship. For over 130 years, we’ve stayed true to our roots while evolving to meet the style and values of the modern world. This is the story of how traditional weaving meets contemporary living.

Our Irish Roots
Founded in 1893 on the banks of the Nenagh River in Co. Tipperary, John Hanly & Co. has remained a family business for over five generations. Our mill, powered by the same river today, still uses natural energy to fuel the craft of weaving — a beautiful example of heritage and sustainability working hand in hand.
We take immense pride in being part of Ireland’s weaving tradition — using skills passed down through generations to create pieces that connect past to present.
Modern Living, Timeless Style
While our roots are steeped in tradition, our designs speak to a modern aesthetic. From bold checks and soft pastels to muted neutrals and fine detailing, each scarf, cap, and throw is made for real life — beautiful, functional, and enduring.
Our pieces are created to complement contemporary living — whether that’s a throw draped over a city apartment sofa, a scarf wrapped for a breezy coastal walk, or a tweed cap worn at a weekend market.
Sustainability Through Tradition
Sustainability isn’t a trend for us — it’s woven into everything we do. We source only natural fibres like lambswool, mohair, cashmere, and merino from trusted suppliers, many from warmer climates where animals thrive. We embrace slow fashion, low-impact energy, and long-lasting quality to reduce waste and promote mindful consumption.
Why It Matters
To wear a John Hanly piece is to carry Irish heritage into your everyday life. It’s a way to honour tradition while embracing your own modern rhythm. Whether you’re gifting a loved one or adding something timeless to your home, our products are more than beautiful — they’re meaningful.
Today, we weave a memory.
